Tunisia\u2019s cosmetic sector: growth, innovation, and global reach<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the past decade, Tunisia\u2019s cosmetic industry has evolved from the production of natural ingredients to the formulation of sophisticated cosmetic products. Anchored in rich biodiversity, traditional botanical knowledge, and modern research, the country is now recognized as a supplier of high-quality natural ingredients and finished cosmetic products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tunisian market has strategically responded to the global surge in demand for certified organic and ingredient-transparent beauty products, expanding exports primarily to Europe, North America, and Asia. Within this context, six Tunisian companies, supported by the PAMPAT project, exemplify the sector\u2019s excellence. These companies combine traditional expertise with scientific innovation to transform local ingredients\u2014particularly prickly pear seed oil\u2014into premium cosmetic products recognized on international markets. Their participation in the national pavilion showcases how Tunisia is building a structured and sustainable supply chain, where quality, tradition, and innovation converge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From nature to global beauty: prickly pear seed oil<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the heart of this transformation is prickly pear seed oil, extracted from Opuntia ficus-indica<\/em>, widely cultivated in the country\u2019s arid and semi-arid regions. This oil has become the hallmark ingredient of Tunisian cosmetics, celebrated for its potent antioxidant, anti-aging, and regenerative properties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The production process is meticulous and resource-intensive: approximately 30 kg of seeds, obtained from nearly one ton of fruit, are needed to yield just one liter of cold-pressed oil, preserving its full biological integrity. Rich in vitamin E, essential fatty acids (Omega 6 and 9), and sterols, the oil supports skin barrier regeneration, improves elasticity, and protects against oxidative stress. Clinical studies have confirmed its efficacy within just four weeks, showing visible wrinkle reduction, improved skin firmness, and a decrease in dark circles and pigmentation spots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tunisia has established itself as a global pioneer in the structured valorization of prickly pear seed oil, thanks to strict standards for quality, traceability, and safety. Organic certifications, compliance with ISO 22716 Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and internationally recognized technical standards ensure that the ingredient meets the highest global benchmarks. On 27 March 2026, targeted meetings will be held with the participating companies, during which they will present their latest innovations, internationalization strategies, and market prospects in natural cosmetics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
